Boundaries you should set as a business owner

If you’re an entrepreneur (like myself), it’s likely that your business might be up there with one of the most important things to you.

We all just want to find success in our business, and we’d pour every ounce of our heart and soul into our business to help others with the work we do, right? Heck, yeah!

But what happens when we get so caught up in keeping things afloat that we finally become too overwhelmed to even show up in our business?

I’d like to offer you a friendly reminder: If you’re completely emptying your cup, there will be nothing left to pour from.

Setting boundaries in your business is one of the best ways to keep things from getting out of hand. Boundaries help us protect our energy so we can show up as strong, healthy, and happy business owners – and in turn, give our business the love and attention it deserves.

Here are a few ways to easily set boundaries as a business owner:

Make time to take care of yourself

Set aside some time to go on a walk, stretch, hit the gym, drink water, eat a nourishing meal. The smallest things can make a big difference.

Learn that it’s okay to say no

Be honest with yourself, remember to protect your energy, and don’t take on more than you can handle.

Set clear expectations of what you offer

Make your offerings crystal clear from the get-go to prevent being taken advantage of and spreading yourself too thin. I love to include my boundaries and a clear list of what is/isn’t included in my services straight up in my proposal. (Have a look at the designer templates I use here)

Create personal time boundaries

Try setting a clock out time (and stick to it!). Make time for yourself, family, and friends. Don’t let work stop you from living your life.

Setting boundaries might feel limiting at first, but in the long run, it may save you from burnout, exhaustion, and falling out of alignment with the work that you do. Plain and simple, boundaries are designed to set you up for success!

With boundaries in place, you’ll be able to show up more fully in your business. You’ll be on your way to creating healthy business habits and both a functional and sustainable work environment for yourself.

I promise, your business and your clients will thank you for it!
